Welcome to the Marg Advisory Services Blog – Touchstones.
We are in the midst of the most unforeseen, unprecedented and unimaginable circumstances, a time of life-altering change. It is only fitting that in these times when the COVID-19 pandemic has confined a large number of the world population to their homes that we launch our blog, focused primarily on two parameters – perspective and insight. The world finally gets to take a pause from a complex, interconnected and dynamic system that has evolved rapidly in the last few years with great advances in technology and communications. We read everywhere that our world will never be the same again. The new normal will be enforced by sobering statistics like 2,000,734 infected and 126,776 dead (Source: worldmeters.info Date: 15 April 2020) that the pandemic has foisted on us.
In this moment of enforced self-reflection, we are confronting the results of our choices, both individual and collective. Our choices in career, lifestyle, technology usage, people interactions, behaviour and relationships reveal, on closer scrutiny, a plethora of information consciously and unconsciously distilled into thought and action, creating the world we live in today. A keen understanding of these choices gives us valuable information and guides us towards making more informed, pragmatic decisions. And while information is key, relevance is the currency of this digital age. As Yuval Harari says in his bestseller 21 Lessons for the 21st Century – “In a world deluged by irrelevant information, clarity is power.” This is what our blog Touchstones sets out to do – enable fresh understanding, help foster new practices.
With Marg Advisory Services’ steadfast commitment to excellence in content, we intend to present in the coming days a series of posts that will be thoughtful and thought provoking in equal measure, for businesses and individuals. The topics covered might be as varied as navigating change, environment and society, lean management, cost reduction, machine learning, art and heritage, leadership excellence and sustainability but the idea of informing our readers of leading research and thinking in these areas is our goal.
